Campus Crime Report - Aug. 28 to Sept. 8

Here are the recent crime reports for UT-Tyler's main campus according to UTTPD's Daily Crime Log. For more information, visit UTTPD's Daily Crime Log webpage. 

Stalking - On Sept. 5, campus police issued a Title IX referral for a report of stalking in the Victory Village Apartments at occurred between midnight and 12:15 a.m. Police received the report that day at 11:36 p.m.

Harassment - On Sept. 1 at 1:18 p.m. campus police received a report about an incident of harassment that occurred off campus. Authorities received the report from an off-campus jurisdiction. The report was for information only. 

Weapons Offense - On Aug. 31 at 7:06 a.m., police responded to a weapons offense at the Foundry Apartments. The incident led to a criminal arrest.

University Cancels Dozens Of Full Ride Scholarship Offers At Last Minute

(Source: James Hescock)  *Editor's Note: This article was updated at 2:50 p.m. on 4/25/18 to include statement from the University and new blog commentary at the bottom in response.  The University of Texas at Tyler (UT Tyler) has cancelled full ride scholarship offers to over a dozen incoming international students, according to multiple reports from prospective students affected by the decision. In  an email  on April 13, Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management Sarah Bowdin told each affected student the University had decided to cancel previously extended offers to its full ride Presidential Fellow scholarship because more applicants applied to the program than the University had expected. Remembering Justin Bartie And Pedestrian Safety At UT-Tyler

Source: X account @BQS108. ) In Oct. 2017, student athlete Justin Bartie was walking home from campus when a southbound motorist struck him along Old Omen Road. The accident left him paralyzed from the waist down. After this incident, then-University of Texas at Tyler President Michael Tidwell issued a campus-wide statement writing , “We see a clear need for immediate improvements for pedestrian safety. We will start construction on these improvements to make UT Tyler a more pedestrian-friendly campus in the coming weeks.” At the time, Tidwell spoke of a new “master facilities plan” with the focus of making UT Tyler “a truly pedestrian-friendly campus.” Tidwell exited the University in 2020 and his successor, Dr. Kirk Calhoun of UT Health Science Center took over.  Since then, the pedestrian crosswalk on Old Omen Rd has been updated to an overhead light signal and moved further away from the University entrance to a new location fur...
