UT-Tyler Women's Golf Athlete Katie Hicken (Source: Wes Bloomquist) UT-Tyler star golfer and student athlete Katie Hicken hinted at using her platform as an athlete for LGBT activism in a tweet on May 8. Hicken, who is openly gay , retweeted a news article about California Institute of Technology (Caltech) tennis player Julia Reisler, 21, who refused to play against East Texas Baptist University (ETBU) on March 24 because it is exempt from parts of Title IX due to its private, religious status. "I simply couldn’t bring myself to take the court against a school that openly discriminates against my community," she  said in an op-ed for Outsports, an LGBTQ publication. UT-Tyler police arrested student Joshua Kyle Schwab, 24, on charges of interfering with public duties, according to police reports obtained by The Campus Conservative Blog. Officers responded to Room 711 on March 27 approximately 4 p.m. on report of suspicious activity, namely, that a non-student, an unidentified black female, was residing in campus housing on Schwab’s invitation. Due to Schwab's resistance, say reports, an officer advised him that a police officer would tase him if he continued to resist.
